IBM SDK, Java Technology Edition, Version 8
Cross-play with Java Edition: Windows, Mac, and Linux Allows you to play with other Java edition players. Split screen multiplayer (online multiplayer requires subscription sold separately) Playing split screen allows up to four players to play on the screen at the same time. Apple is no longer supplying Java for the Mac (and even in the past this presumes OSX.) I believe when they did support it, it had been upgraded to 1.6 though. They moved it in to public domain and so it probably lives somewhere else now. One might also find it under 'old' downloads or some such.
The IBM ® SDK, Java ™ Technology Edition, Version 8 ™ is the latest release of the IBM Developer Kit and is fully compatible with the Oracle Platform Java Standard Edition (Java SE) 8 application programming interfaces (APIs).
Earlier releases
These downloads are intended for established users, and contain the latest IBM fixes and Oracle updates to the Java SE application programming interfaces (APIs). To take advantage of new capabilities in the SDK, users are encouraged to move to the latest version.

The following are the system requirements for installing the JDK and the JRE on macOS:
Download Java 8 For Mac
Any Intel-based computer running macOS.
Administrator privileges.
You cannot install Java for a single user. Installing the JDK and JRE on macOS is performed on a systemwide basis for all users. Administrator privileges are required to install the JDK and JRE on macOS.
When you install the JDK, it also installs the JRE. However, the system will not replace the current JRE with a lower version.
To determine the current JRE version installed on your system, see Determining the JRE Version Installed on macOS. To install an earlier version of the JRE, you must first uninstall the current version. See Uninstalling the JRE on macOS.
When you install the JRE, you can install only one JRE on your system at a time. The system will not install a JRE that has an earlier version than the current version.

Note:
Installing a JRE from Oracle will not update
java -versionsymlinks or addjavato your path. To do this, you must install the JDK.
